Service Tags
A tag is a label you can attach to a service to help organize and manage your services as their number grows.
- A service can have multiple tags.
- The same tag can be attached to multiple services.
- In other words, the relationship between services and tags is many-to-many.
Use Cases
Tags are useful whenever you need to group services that share something in common, for example:
- Separating services by environment, such as
productionandstaging. - Separating services by team, when different teams own different services.
- Separating services by customer, in multi-tenant setups.
Using Tags
Once services are tagged, you can use those tags across the platform instead of handling services one by one:
- Viewing account traffic - On the traffic analytics pages, you can select one or more tags to review the combined consumption of all services carrying those tags, instead of selecting each service individually.
- Restricting access - You can restrict a user or access token to only the services carrying specific tag(s). If a new service is later created with that tag, the user or token automatically gains access to it, without any need to update the restriction.
- Filtering services - On the Services page, you can filter the list of services by tag to quickly narrow down to the services you are interested in.
